Multi-Day River Expeditions
Paddle the Canadian Rockies
Discover the Canadian Rockies, One Paddle Stroke at a Time
Green Tongue Adventures has a passion for canoeing, rafting, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and helping people feel more confident on the water. Our expedition trips are designed around experience, training, connection, and understanding.
During each journey, we aim to support your paddling and camping skills, set clear objectives from the beginning, and create space for your group to relax into the rhythm of river travel. Some trips are beginner-friendly and family-focused. Others are remote, technical, and better suited to intermediate paddlers.
With outfitting, food, logistics, transportation, and river support available, we make multi-day paddling easier to plan and more enjoyable to experience.
Whitewater, Wildlife & Big Mountain Views
The Kootenay River is a favourite in the local river community for its natural beauty, wildlife, and exciting whitewater. This free-flowing mountain river offers wave trains, rock gardens, calm stretches, deep canyons, waterfalls, and scenic fishing opportunities.
For less experienced paddlers, training may be included on the first day, covering flatwater skills, river maneuvers, rescue basics, strokes, and navigation. Raft assistance may also be available for families or guests who need extra support.
Remote 8-Day River Adventure
The Brazeau Helicopter Expedition is a remote, raft-based wilderness journey for paddlers looking for a bigger adventure. Helicopter access gives the trip a unique start before launching into the Brazeau River corridor.
This route includes continuous whitewater, canyon scenery, waterfalls, slot canyon side hikes, wave trains, braided channels, wildlife signs, and a scenic finish across Brazeau Reservoir. It’s best suited for intermediate paddlers who are comfortable with remote river travel.
Beginner-Friendly Family Expedition
The Milk River & Writing-on-Stone Explorer is ideal for beginners, families, and guests who want a gentler introduction to multi-day river travel. The route includes calm water, occasional class II rapids, and a comfortable pace for building confidence.
Along the way, guests can experience sandstone canyons, hoodoo walls, grasslands, wildlife, riverside lunches, overnight camps, short hikes, and time near Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park. It’s a beautiful mix of nature, culture, and beginner-friendly adventure.
Remote Yukon Wilderness Journey
The Wind River is a remote Yukon river in the Peel Watershed, known for clear water, open valleys, mountain views, whitewater, hiking, lakes, and wetlands. It’s a true northern wilderness experience for paddlers ready to go deeper.
This expedition is technically challenging and requires intermediate canoe skills, strong maneuvering ability, and quick decision-making on moving water. It’s best for well-prepared guests who want a remote, rewarding, and committed river journey.

Choose from guided river expeditions across Alberta, BC, and the Yukon, with canoe routes, raft support, wilderness camping, and trip options for different skill levels.
River Skills Built Into the Journey
Many of our trips include training and skill development as part of the experience. Depending on the route, the first day may include flatwater practice, river maneuvers, rescue basics, stroke development, and navigation strategies before moving into more challenging sections.
Raft Support for Added Confidence
For families, mixed-ability groups, or guests who need extra support, raft assistance may be available. A support raft can help carry gear, provide stability, and make the trip more accessible for children or adults who want a stronger safety net.
Fully Supported Camp Life
Traditional camp menus are part of the Green Tongue experience. Using fire, cast iron, and whole-food ingredients, we prepare hearty meals that fit the rhythm of the trip. Gluten-free and soy-free options may be available with advance notice.
Logistics Made Easier
River trips can be hard to coordinate. We help with outfitting, transportation, shuttle support, group planning, gear choices, and route details. Our goal is to remove the messy parts of planning so the adventure can unfold more smoothly.
Local and Remote River Options
We use a wide range of waterways, including the Kootenay River, Milk River, North Saskatchewan River, Upper and Lower Red Deer River, Brazeau River, Elk River, Spray Lakes, Barrier Lake, and Upper Kananaskis Lakes.

Inclusions depend on the trip, but expeditions may include guides, boats, paddling gear, safety equipment, raft support, camp equipment, kitchen systems, group shelters, dry storage, meals, transportation, shuttle support, and route planning.
Do I need previous paddling experience?
It depends on the expedition. Some trips are suitable for beginners and families, while others require intermediate canoe skills, whitewater experience, maneuvering ability, and comfort in remote settings. We’ll help match your group with the right route.
Are meals included?
Many expedition trips include camp meals. Green Tongue Adventures focuses on traditional camp menus using fire, cast iron, and whole-food ingredients. Dietary needs such as gluten-free or soy-free options should be discussed before booking.
