Our Story

Helping People Discover Their Potential on the Water

Green Tongue Adventures was born in Canmore, Alberta, from a love of paddling, teaching, and connecting with people outside. The company was founded by Clayton Williams, who lives and works in Canmore and has built Green Tongue around one simple goal: helping people feel capable, prepared, and excited on the water.

Our Vision

To help more people experience the Canadian Rockies from the water with confidence, respect, and a deeper connection to the places they explore.

Our Mission

To safely guide, train, and outfit paddlers through memorable river adventures, practical skills courses, and community-focused outdoor experiences.

Meet Clayton Williams

Guided by River Experience and Emergency Care

Clayton Williams is the founder of Green Tongue Adventures and a full-time Advanced Care Paramedic based in Canmore, Alberta.

That combination matters. Rivers are beautiful, exciting, and full of learning opportunities, but they also require preparation and respect. Clayton’s background in emergency care brings a practical, safety-first mindset to Green Tongue Adventures. Guests benefit from calm leadership, thoughtful planning, and a teaching style built around clear steps instead of pressure.

Clayton started Green Tongue Adventures because he wanted to share the water with people in a way that felt personal, professional, and empowering. He believes outdoor adventure can help people grow, connect, and discover strengths they didn’t know they had.

For him, this company is more than a business. It’s a dream built in Canmore, one paddle stroke at a time.

Our Approach

Adventure Feels Better When You Feel Prepared

We believe adventure should challenge you in the right way. Not by overwhelming you, but by helping you grow with the right support, the right gear, and the right guidance.

Green Tongue Adventures combines local river knowledge, practical instruction, emergency-care experience, and a friendly teaching style. That means guests can enjoy the thrill of the outdoors without feeling lost before they even begin.

Certifications & Training Standards

Training That Builds Real Confidence

Green Tongue Adventures is built around more than tours and rentals. Training is a major part of who we are.

Our programs support recreational paddlers, outdoor professionals, youth participants, families, and organizations that want stronger skills on and around the water. Through wilderness first aid, swift water rescue, Paddle Canada courses, and paddling skills programs, we help people learn how to make better decisions in real outdoor settings.

Advanced Care Paramedic Background

Clayton’s work as an Advanced Care Paramedic gives Green Tongue Adventures a strong foundation in emergency awareness, preparation, and calm decision-making.

Our wilderness first aid training helps outdoor professionals and recreational adventurers understand how to respond when help may not be close by.

Swift water training focuses on practical safety, strong foundations, and clear skill progression so students can build confidence in moving water environments.

Paddle Canada courses help paddlers and instructors improve their skills, leadership, teaching ability, and confidence on the water.

Youth programs are designed with safety, structure, and responsibility in mind, including proper planning, supervision, gear requirements, and instructor screening.

Our Values

What Guides Every Trip, Course, and Program

Community

Book a Program and Invest in the Community

Green Tongue Adventures is proud to support local initiatives through programs, shop purchases, contests, clean-up challenges, and community-focused events.

Adventure should create something bigger than one great day on the water. When people book programs, join sessions, buy branded gear, or take part in local challenges, they help support a cycle of giving, learning, and care for the places we paddle.

River Clean-Up Challenge

Protect the Places We Paddle

The river gives us so much, and we believe paddlers should give something back.

Our River Clean-Up Challenge encourages people to spend time cleaning their favourite paddling areas, share the effort on social media, and tag Green Tongue Adventures. It’s a fun, community-driven way to care for local waterways while encouraging others to do the same.

Past challenges have included gear giveaways, including rescue-focused paddling equipment. The real reward, though, is a cleaner river and a stronger paddling community.
